BOCA RATON, FLORIDA (February 17, 2015) – The City of Boca Raton will host WPEC CBS12’s 2nd Annual Health & Wellness Experience in partnership with Peaceful Mind, Peaceful Life, on Saturday, February 28 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Mizner Park Amphitheater, 590 Plaza Real, in Boca Raton. The event is FREE and open to the public. Activities include healthy cooking demonstrations with parfaits, energy ball shakes and chocolate mousse by Invite Health; a Kids Activity Zone with rock wall, sports activity challenge and arts & crafts; Florida Atlantic University Coach’s Corner with games, activities and meet and greet with Coach Charlie Partridge; main stage entertainment with fitness demonstrations including yoga, kickboxing and Cia do Axe in Capoeira, a Brazilian art form that combines elements of martial arts, sports and music; and free health screenings – blood pressure, glucose and child development – at the Palm Healthcare Foundation Screening Zone. In addition, The Peaceful Mind, Peaceful Life area will host speakers, demonstrations and free giveaways throughout the day. At 10 a.m. Melanie Haraldson with talk Nutrition; 11 a.m. Stephanie Cross, “Mind Your Body;” 12 p.m. Michelle Maros with “Chair Yoga;” 1 p.m. Barbara Schmidt will share insight into how to “Be the Person You Want to Be,” and will sign copies of her book The Practice: Simple Tools for Managing Stress, Finding Inner Peace and Uncovering Happiness; 2 p.m. Pam Butler, “Techniques for Living Your Greatest Life;” and at 3 p.m. Amelia Maynard will share Chakra work. Founded in 2011 by Barb Schmidt, Peaceful Mind Peaceful Life is a non-profit organization dedicated to funding speakers, teachers, and projects that spread peace and love throughout the world. As part of this event the City is recognizing Florida Bicycle Month (March) by hosting a downtown 2 mile bicycle ride at 9:00am with City Council to celebrate the unique power of the bicycle and the many reasons to ride. The bicycle ride will encourage residents and employees that live or work in downtown Boca Raton to leave their personal automobiles at home and bike to work, bike to run errands or bike for recreation around the City during the month of March. The bicycle ride will provide an awareness of bicycling for both transportation and recreation.
