On Tuesday, June 25, The Addison became the first South Florida venue dedicated exclusively to private events to ever receive the prestigious Five Star Diamond Award. An elite group of guests were on hand to celebrate the honor, as The Addison transformed itself into a secret garden reminiscent of “A Mid-Summer Night’s Dream.” Bestowed by the American Academy of Hospitality Sciences (AASHS), the Five Star Diamond Award highlights the stunning property, exceptional service and mouthwatering cuisine that attract hundreds of weddings, corporate events and private parties from all over the country to The Addison and Boca Raton each year. The Academy, founded in 1949, is the world’s renowned hospitality organization for awarding excellence in travel, cuisine, luxury products and services, and the recognition is one that many superlative establishments strive to achieve. The evening was a true celebration of how far The Addison has come since it was designed and built as the headquarters for famed architect Addison Mizner’s real estate development operations in 1926. What began as one man’s creative dream for an entire city became an example of the tragic times when Mizner was forced to abandon his dream a mere two years later when the great depression devastated most of the country. His masterpiece was quickly relegated to crude dorm rooms for the staff at the Boca Resort and within decades was completely abandoned. The magical estate with its now famed banyan covered courtyard and delicately restored detailed woodwork sat empty and neglected until 1983 and it is the property’s history that makes the honor of receiving the Five Star Diamond Award such an important benchmark for The Addison and Boca Raton. “The architectural masterpiece created by Addison Mizner in 1926 has provided us with thebackdropandinspirationfortheincredible events we create here everyday,” says Director of Operations, Zoe Lanham. “Our entire staff is inspired everyday and that is something that our clients can sense and appreciate.” she adds. “As soon as we walked in and saw the banyan trees I started picturing myself getting married. I’ve never received such exceptional service and The Addison makes you feel like the only bride and groom in the world,” raves recent Addison bride, Allison Charnick.
